TerraKids on a tablet: a map of Europe filling up with flags, and the next flag, Moldova, waiting to be dragged onto the map

Pick a map. Drag the flag. Fill the world.

  1. Pick a continent

Europe, Africa, Asia, both Americas, Oceania, or all 50 US states. The biggest countries come first, so round one always feels doable.

  2. Drag the flag home

The name is said out loud, so kids who can't read yet can play alone. Tiny countries get big round targets.

  3. Missed? Hear the story

A wrong drop is never a fail. TerraKids says which country that was, then tells the story of the right flag.

Why the app is the best place to learn the world

Kids learn by doing

Every drag is a small memory test: find it, place it, see if it was right. Pulling an answer out of your own head is called retrieval practice, and it beats reading the same thing again, also with kids in real primary school classes.1

Pictures stay, words slip

Every flag in the app comes with a tiny story kids can see in their head. People remember pictures far better than plain words, so a picture-story sticks where a list of colours doesn't.2

No ads, ever

A University of Michigan study found ads in 95% of 135 popular apps for children aged 5 and under. TerraKids has none, and no tricks to keep kids hooked.3

Works anywhere

Everything is inside the app. No internet, no sign-up, no waiting. In the car, on a plane, at grandma's.

Calm enough for a 3 year old. Hard enough for a 13 year old.

Made for kids who learn in their own way, including kids with ADHD. Short rounds, instant feedback and a story for every flag.

Rounds of six

Short enough to finish, with a little party at the end of every round.

No timers, no losing

No lives and no scores that drop. Every round ends with a fuller map.

Help is one tap away

The lightbulb makes the right country glow. After two misses it names the neighbours too.

Every flag, not just the famous ones.

In a 2006 National Geographic study, six in ten Americans aged 18 to 24 could not find Iraq on a map.4 Your kid will know better.

I made TerraKids for my own kids. I wanted them to know the world, and every app I tried was a quiz full of ads or a subscription trap.

So I built the one I wanted: calm, honest and full of stories. If it helps your kids too, that makes me very happy.
